Description
The world is full of numbers. Over centuries and millennia humans tried to understand the universe and everything. They searched for a universal language and found it in numbers and digits and they spent a long time trying to get what was in their heads to work in a machine so that everyone could use it whenever he wished to.
The photo depicts a part of an early calculating machine from the 19th century. It is displayed in the so called Arithmeum in Bonn in Germany, alongside many other efforts humanity put into the dream of having a calculating machine over the centuries with modern computers as the final outcome. It's worth a visit.

It's beautiful, but looks like it would have been confusing as all hell to use!
